Cooler days are here, making now the ideal time to prepare your home for the months ahead. A few simple maintenance jobs now can help keep your home warmer, drier and more comfortable all winter long.

Your April checklist

Carpet clean

After a busy summer, carpets can hold onto dust, dirt and allergens. A thorough vacuum or deep clean will freshen your home and create a cleaner, healthier space for the cooler months.

Clean windows

Let as much natural light as possible into your home before the shorter days arrive. Clean windows inside and out, and wipe down sills and tracks for a brighter, fresher outlook.

Refresh your entryway

With wetter weather on the way, now's the time to tidy your home's entrance. Shake out door mats, clean hard floors and organise shoes, coats and umbrellas so everything has its place.

Clean heat pump filters

Before your heat pump becomes part of the daily routine, give the filters a clean. Better airflow helps improve efficiency and keeps your home comfortable throughout winter.

Check weather seals

Inspect the seals around doors and windows for cracks, gaps or signs of wear. Replacing damaged seals helps keep warm air in, cold draughts out and can improve your home's energy efficiency.

Check bathroom ventilation

As showers get hotter and windows stay closed for longer, good ventilation becomes even more important. Make sure extractor fans are clean and working properly to help reduce moisture and condensation.

Inspect moisture-prone areas

Check bathrooms, laundries, wardrobes and around windows for signs of dampness, mould or condensation. Addressing small issues now can help prevent bigger problems over winter.

Rotate your wardrobe for winter

Pack away summer clothing and bring warmer layers to the front of the wardrobe. It's also a great opportunity to donate anything you no longer wear and make space for the season ahead.

Organise storage cupboards

Tidy linen cupboards, hallway storage and utility spaces so winter essentials are easy to find. A little organisation now will save time throughout the colder months.

Pack away summer essentials

Pack away beach gear, outdoor games and other seasonal items to free up valuable space. Using storage tubs or shelving will help keep everything protected until next summer.
