This month: October

Give your outdoors a good spruce-up

Warmer days are on the way. Time to give your deck, paths and outdoor furniture a bit of attention, so you’re ready to make the most of them.

Good to know

Pick a dry spell to wash outdoor furniture and cushions, so everything has time to dry properly before you use it or put it away.

Good months to start

Make it a habit

A little each month adds up. By the end of the year every part of your home has had some attention, and none of it felt like a big job.

Book in one weekend a month

Set aside a weekend for your checklist, or do a job or two each weekend if that suits you better.

Start with what bugs you most

Every job stands on its own, so begin with the one that will make the biggest difference to you.

Tick it off and keep going

Each month builds on the last. Miss one? Just pick up with this month and carry on.

Good to know

How long does each month’s checklist take?

Most months have around five jobs that take a few hours in total. Get them done together, spread them across the month or start with the ones that need the most attention.

Do I need to do every job?

No. You know your place best. Pick the jobs that need doing and leave anything that doesn’t apply or is already sorted.

I’m renting. Can I use the calendar?

Absolutely. There are plenty of cleaning and organising jobs to get stuck into. If something needs repairing, changing or you’re unsure about a job, check with your landlord or property manager first.

Do I need special tools or DIY skills?

Many jobs just need everyday cleaning gear and basic tools. Each task will help you work out what you need before you start. If a job is beyond your skills or equipment, get someone qualified to help.

What if I miss a month?

No worries. Start with this month and look back for anything that still needs doing. You don’t have to catch up on everything.

Can I start at any time?

Yes. There’s no need to wait for January. Head to the current month’s checklist and pick your first job.
