Making a real and sustainable impact. Together.

Check out our FY24 sustainability report to see what we’re up to in our stores and local communities and learn about our progress so far and the journey we have ahead of us.

Thank you for helping us to recycle pots, lightbulbs, batteries, polystyrene and more. Mitre 10 is committed to reducing our environmental impact and we want to help New Zealanders live more sustainably. Small changes can make a big difference so let’s grow and build for better. You can view last year’s report here Sustainability Report 2023

Below are some tips for living more sustainably, information about the recycling programmes operating in our stores, and more.

Waste Hierarchy Funnel

Did you know recycling is one of the last steps in the waste hierarchy funnel? Before we recycle or dispose of rubbish, there are other steps we can take.

1. Waste Prevention- Avoid buying, and instead borrow or share
2. Reuse – Maintain and fix rather than buy again or replace
3. Repurpose – Upcycle, sell 2nd hand, share or gift
4. Recycling – Use council kerbside or take to recycling collection points like Mitre 10 pot recycle bins
5. Disposal – Last resort into landfill

Recycled Paint trial in Auckland

Mitre 10 is excited to support Resene with the launch of their recycled paint range. RE:Paint is a low sheen/satin paint finish made from recycled waterborne paint, recycled in New Zealand through the Resene PaintWise recycling service. Resene Paintwise is the only paint product stewardship programme in New Zealand, accredited by the Ministry for the Environment.

RE:Paint is available from Mitre 10 stores in Auckland with a potential national roll out in the future. Browse the full range of RE:Paint >
