Laying border stones is a great way to transform your landscape. Ideal as a bordering block, whether for finishing your lawn edge, or simply as a planter or garden bed, border stones come in a range of fashion colours that will compliment any garden design.
NOTE: The colour of concrete products can vary between batches, so obtain all the blocks you’ll need for your wall from one supplier in one order. If your wall will use more than one pallet of blocks, “mix and match” from each pallet to ensure a uniform mix of colours.
3 Easy Steps
Step 1:
Firstly, mark out the line where you want the border to be placed. The first layer of border stones needs to be buried approximately 50mm into the ground. Ensure that this first layer is completely flat and level. It will be necessary to lay a level base course material under the blocks to achieve this.
Step 2:
Stack the other layers in a running bond pattern (ie. each block offset by half a block from the one below). Pull each block gently forward so the bottom lip engages with the blocks in the layer below.
Step 3:
When back-filling the wall, it is recommended that you use a drainage material such as scoria. Place a 300mm wide strip of scoria behind the wall. If desired, a concrete mowing strip may be formed along the front of the blocks. On sloping sites always start building the wall at the lowest
point and work uphill. The minimum radius for internal or external curves is approximately 500mm.
