Westport Early Learning Centre Playground Makeover

The Westport community were hit by devastating floods in August last year. The playground at Westport Early Learning Centre (WELC) was destroyed by the floods. Upon hearing the news, the Helping Hand teams stepped in to help makeover the playground. The project was led by Mitre 10 Westport’s co-owner Troy Scanlon.

There were around 50 volunteers and builders, including Stan Scott, who got down to business in gruelling wet weekend in November last year. The team completed a custom-built pirate ship, new vege patches, a sensory pathway and more!

WELC head teacher Karen Skewes is thrilled with the final result: “The new playground will be an exciting surprise when the centre re-opens this month.”

Troy adds, “The playhouse has been given a lift with a fresh coat of paint, new garden beds for the kids to practice their gardening skills and some awesome-ready lawn!”.
