Westpac Trust helicopter charity house

Date: September 2019 - June 2020

Helping Hand: Mitre 10 MEGA Nelson

Project: Charity House build and auction

Already months in the planning, construction on the Helicopter House began in September 2019, when Mitre 10 MEGA Nelson partnered with construction firm Gibbons Naylor and a group of local organisations to raise funds for the Nelson Marlborough Rescue Helicopter Trust (NMRHT) by building a house to be sold for charity.

After hundreds of hours of volunteer time and donated materials, the house was auctioned off in Mid-December raising $210,000 for the trust. It was moved to its final location on March 2nd and Judith Green and Bruce Wilson, the new owners of the charity house said they are delighted with the result and the goodwill around the project.

Mitre 10 MEGA Nelson Marketing Manager Murray Leaning who lead the project said "It's been quite a journey and an interesting couple of months - but to see it anchored to the property now and about to become home to someone is fantastic."

After a delay due to lockdown, decking and finishing touches were added in May and June with a house finishing celebration on June 21st.

This was the second Charity House Auction and has so far raised a combined $356,000 for the trust. Another charity build is being planned for 2021.
