Tardis Book Nook for Brightwater Reserve

Date:  March 2021

Helping Hand:  Mitre 10 MEGA Nelson

Project:  Tardis Library for Brightwater Community

A new Tardis-style library now decorates the Brightwater reserve, thanks to Mitre 10 MEGA Nelson, Menzshed Waimea and Brightwater Community Association Member, Pat Lithgow.

Inspired after seeing a free book exchange created from an old phone booth, Pat approached Murray Leaning at Mitre 10 MEGA to supply the materials and concept, and with the help of the volunteers at Menzshed Waimea, the Dr Who-inspired little library (Murray’s idea) was soon erected on a concrete slab in Brightwater’s main street.

According to Murray, Mitre 10 MEGA Nelson have a close connection to Dr Who. Jayden Hartnell, who works in their paint department is the great nephew of William Hartnell, the first Dr Who. Needless to say the Mitre 10 MEGA employee was stoked to hear a Tardis was being created.

The little book nook can hold plenty of books, with loads lining the shelves on its opening day donated by Brightwater locals for all to enjoy.
