Hot Water Bottles

Hot Water Bottles at Mitre 10

A hot water bottle is one of the cheapest ways to stay warm in bed, on the couch or when you are unwell. Choose from classic rubber, thermoplastic and long-shape designs, with soft covers in fleece, wool or knitted fabric. Long hot water bottles wrap around your neck and shoulders, while classic sizes suit your feet or lower back. Always follow the filling and care instructions on the bottle.

How do I safely fill a hot water bottle?

Fill the bottle two-thirds full with hot (not boiling) water straight from the kettle, which should have been off the boil for a minute or so. Squeeze out excess air, screw the stopper firmly and check there is no leaking. Always use the bottle inside a soft cover to prevent burns, and replace the bottle every two years or if you see cracks, wrinkles or a perished stopper.

How long does a hot water bottle stay warm?

A well-filled hot water bottle typically stays warm for four to six hours, depending on the ambient temperature, the cover material and how full you filled it. A thick knitted or fleece cover holds heat longer than a thin one. For overnight use, tuck the bottle between layers of bedding rather than against bare skin to avoid burns.
