Heat Transfer and Home Ventilation at Mitre 10

A heat transfer kit moves warm air from a room with a strong heat source, such as a lounge with a wood fire or heat pump, into colder bedrooms and living areas. Excess heat sitting at ceiling level is drawn through insulated ducting by an inline fan and delivered through ceiling diffusers. Kits typically cover two to four rooms. The fan wiring and thermostat installation must be completed by a registered electrician.

How does a heat transfer kit work?

A heat transfer kit uses an intake grille mounted in the ceiling of the source room (usually the lounge), an inline fan and insulated ducting running through the roof space to outlet diffusers in the target rooms. When ceiling temperature reaches the thermostat setpoint, the fan switches on and pushes the warm air into colder rooms, creating a continuous circulation loop back to the source room.

What is the difference between a heat transfer kit and a ventilation system?

A heat transfer kit moves existing warm air from one room to another inside your home. A home ventilation system brings fresh, filtered air in from outside (or the roof cavity) and pushes moist, stale air out through window and door gaps. Ventilation systems reduce condensation and mould, while heat transfer kits spread warmth. Many modern homes benefit from both.
