Gas cabinet heaters run on a 9kg LPG bottle stored inside the cabinet and deliver fast, portable heat for larger living areas. Typical heat outputs range from around 12 megajoules per hour to 25 megajoules per hour. Look for an oxygen depletion sensor, piezo ignition, tilt shut-off and multiple heat settings. Cabinet heaters are not suitable for bedrooms or bathrooms.
Gas cabinet heaters are safe for use in larger, well-ventilated living rooms provided you open a window or vent for airflow. They must not be used in bedrooms, bathrooms, caravans or sleepouts because combustion gases and moisture build up quickly in small enclosed spaces. Always fit a modern cabinet heater that includes an oxygen depletion sensor and tilt shut-off valve.
Run time depends on heat setting. On the low setting (around 12 megajoules per hour), a 9kg bottle typically lasts between 35 and 40 hours. On high (around 25 megajoules per hour), it lasts around 17 to 20 hours. Keep a spare 9kg bottle on hand through winter so you can swap over when the running bottle empties.
