Fan Heaters at Mitre 10

Fan heaters push warm air directly into a room, so they heat a small space quickly. Compact designs and low prices make them a popular choice for bathrooms, bedrooms, garages and caravans. Look for at least two heat settings (usually 1,000W and 2,000W), a thermostat, tip-over switch and overheat protection. Ceramic fan heaters warm up even faster and keep their surface temperature lower.

Are fan heaters expensive to run?

A 2kW fan heater costs roughly the same to run as any other 2kW plug-in heater. Because they heat the air quickly, you can switch them off sooner, which helps control costs. A thermostat keeps running costs down by cycling the heater once the set temperature is reached. For longer evening or overnight use, oil column or panel heaters usually work out cheaper.

Can you use a fan heater in a bathroom?

Only use a fan heater in a bathroom if it is specifically rated for bathroom use (look for an IP rating of at least IPX4) and positioned outside the splash zone of the bath or shower. Most portable fan heaters are not suitable for bathrooms. A wall-mounted bathroom heater with the correct IP rating, installed by a registered electrician, is the safer choice.
