Oil Column Heaters at Mitre 10

Oil column heaters warm a thermal oil sealed inside their fins, then release the heat gradually into the room. They run silently, keep their surface cooler than radiant heaters and suit bedrooms, studies and living rooms. Compare heat output (typically 1,500W to 2,400W), number of fins, thermostat, timer and whether the model includes a small fan for faster warm-up.

How many fins do I need on an oil column heater?

Each fin adds heating surface, so more fins usually means more heat for the same wattage. A 7-fin, 1,500W heater suits a small bedroom up to around 12m². An 11-fin, 2,400W heater covers a lounge or bedroom up to around 20m². Well-insulated rooms with double glazing need less output than older, draughtier rooms.

Do oil column heaters need refilling with oil?

No. The oil inside an oil column heater is sealed at the factory and never needs topping up or replacing over the life of the heater. If the heater starts leaking oil, stop using it immediately and replace the unit, because the oil and element cannot be safely refilled or repaired at home.
