A dehumidifier removes moisture from the air, helping your home feel warmer, dry out faster after rain and resist mould and dust mites. New Zealand winters often create damp, cold conditions, and drying the air makes your heating work more efficiently. Choose a compressor model for warmer rooms above 15°C, or a desiccant model for colder or unheated spaces.
A dehumidifier pulls excess moisture from indoor air, helping maintain a healthier and drier home environment. By lowering humidity, it reduces mould growth, protects furniture, and improves overall air quality.
Dehumidifiers are ideal for basements, bedrooms, or any space prone to condensation.
Match the extraction rate to the room and how damp it gets. Bedrooms and small spaces up to 25m² work well with an 8L to 12L per day unit. Living rooms from 25m² to 50m² typically need 12L to 18L, and garages, basements or whole-home drying usually require 18L or more. A model with a built-in humidistat switches off once the target humidity is reached.
Place the dehumidifier in the centre of the room with at least 300mm of clear space around it, and keep doors and windows closed while it runs. For whole-home use, move the unit between rooms or position it in a central hallway. Rooms like laundries, bathrooms and bedrooms often benefit most. Empty the tank regularly, or use a continuous drain hose for long runs.
