New homes for yellow eyed penguins at the Penguin Place

Date: November 2021

Helping Hand: Mitre 10 MEGA Dunedin

Project: Penguin Place

The team from Mitre 10 MEGA Dunedin teamed up with Fisher & Paykel, providing materials (with all nails donated by ECKO) for 50 brand new A-frame penguin nesting boxes. The boxes were built by 16 Fisher & Paykel team members, most of whom were engineers, and four team members from Mitre 10 in Dunedin, which provided the materials.

These boxes were then donated to Penguin Place, a conservation reserve on the peninsula who are dedicated to helping save the world’s most endangered penguin, the Hoiho (Yellow Eyed Penguin). The boxes will provide the shade, shelter, and protection this species need to successfully raise their chicks through the breeding season.
