Metro Fires – Clean-burning wood fires made in New Zealand

Metro Fires was established in Taranaki in the mid-90s, with the very first fire designed and hand-built in the garage of the Butler family home. An opportunity was realised to develop a range of high performance, quality made wood fires which would set the market on fire. Metro Fires continues to grow and build on their founding legacy with the same passion, drive and ethics, and they are proud to remain a family owned and operated New Zealand company.

The commitment to deliver the best heating solutions and keep kiwi homes warm and dry has seen their range grow from a single model to New Zealand's most extensive range of wood fires. You'll love the warmth, comfort and quality of a New Zealand made Metrofires.

Love warmth. Love wood.

Many decisions you make on a daily basis affect the planet and the type of heating you install in your home is one of the biggest contributions you can make to the environment.

A Metro fire is an excellent environmentally conscious heating choice and will make your home warmer, drier and healthier. A fire creates a focal point in your living space that becomes the heart of your home, whether you choose a freestanding, insert or built-in model.

Make a heating choice both you and the environment can feel good about. If you love warmth, love wood.

Wood Fires

All fireboxes are fabricated with firebox cooktops of single or twin layers of 6mm or 10mm New Zealand steel for performance and durability. Superior build quality, extensive research and development, rigorous quality control and a guarantee of workmanship go into every single Metro fire manufactured.

ECO Flues

A Metro ECO Flue heats your home faster and more efficiently. Once your home is heated to the desired temperature, your fire can be turned to a lower setting, consuming less firewood and saving you money.

An ECO flue differs from a Standard flue due to the much higher efficiency it operates at. All flue systems need moving air between the liners to ensure the outer flue liners remain cool. A Metro ECO flue draws air from either your homes ceiling cavity or from outside your home, unlike a Standard flue which draws air directly from the room being heated by the wood fire.

Lab testing of a Standard flue showed the air heated by the wood fire being drawn from the room at an astounding rate of 450 litres per minute. This lost warm air is then replaced by cooler air drawn into the room from other parts of the home at the same rate, causing a constant incoming draught. This requires your fire to be operated at a higher burn rate to continually heat the incoming cold air.

Because Standard flue liners are open to the outside environment, you may also notice wind noise inside the home during windy days.

Floor Protectors

All Metro freestanding fires require only an ash hearth floor protector to comply with the AS/NZS 2918 Standard.

Metro floor protectors offer a ready-made solution in a range of styles and sizes that can be laid directly on top of any flooring substrate (carpet, vinyl, timber etc) for quick and easy installation.

Alloy trim floor protectors are finished with anodised black extruded aluminium trim and black tiles. Slimline floor protectors are lightweight with a low profile thickness and are finished in black powdercoat.

Parts & Maintenance

A Metro fire will give you many years of efficient service with minimal maintenance when operated correctly using dry, well seasoned fuel. The unique firebox design features only minimal working parts that require maintenance and servicing. Metro Fires continue to manufacture and supply genuine parts for every wood fire model and are committed to doing so for 25 years from the last date of production for all models.

Accessories

Metro Fires has a wide range of heating accessories to complement your wood fire. From floor protectors and heat transfer systems to wetbacks and ECO Flue Systems. Most Metro Fires can be fitted with a wetback to assist with your water heating and the addition of a Metro Heat Transfer System will maximise heat produced by your fire and spread warmth throughout your home.
