Celebrating its 18th year, MEGA walk has become one of Hawke’s Bay’s favourite community events, bringing people together to enjoy the region’s beautiful landscapes while supporting a deserving local charity. With four walk distances available, there’s an option for everyone, whether you’re a regular walker, taking on a personal challenge, or simply looking for a fun day out with family and friends. Every year, we welcome participants of all ages and abilities. From first-time walkers to dedicated athletes, their commitment, resilience, and positive spirit are what make this event so special.
Over the past 17 years, MEGA walk has proudly raised more than $341,000 to support young people and their families in Hawke’s Bay living with cancer. Once again, we’re thrilled to announce that all proceeds will go directly to The Acorn Project Hawke’s Bay. The Acorn Project offers tailored, wraparound support for young people aged 12–24 and their families navigating cancer. Their services include one-on-one support from dedicated youth workers, peer connections with other local members, and monthly activities. At its core, The Acorn Project believes every young person in Hawke’s Bay deserves access to support that empowers them, makes them feel seen, and helps them express their hopes and choices for the future.
The Mitre 10 MEGA 23km is a run or walk. The event starts at Haumoana Domain Reserve, 6/4 Domain Road, Haumoana at 7.00am. Participants will follow a clearly defined route along the riverbank trails through to Clive and continuing along the costal trails. From here it follows the pathway to Ahuriri and the finish line. Average walking time to complete is 4.5 hours. To ensure safe operation of the event, there is a cut-off point at the 12km point at Waitangi Regional Park and participants should have passed this point by 9.30am.

One year, we even had a pony take part, so anything goes!
