Why is insulation important?

A lot of Kiwi houses, particularly the older ones, aren’t well-insulated. More than a third of home heating could be disappearing through the ceiling, and as much as 24% of heat loss can occur through the walls. And, as of 1 July 2019, all rental properties must have underfloor and ceiling insulation where it is reasonably practicable to install. The Ministry of Housing and Urban Development has more information on the new Healthy Homes Standards including the insulation standards.
