Garden makeover for retired couple

Date: March 2020

Helping Hand: Mitre 10 MEGA Ferrymead

Project: Garden makeover for the Wootton’s

A retired couple, Mr and Mrs Wootton, reached out to Mitre 10 MEGA Ferrymead asking for help with their old, rotting garden beds. They have a huge love for gardening but the state of their garden beds did not make it possible for anything to grow. Due to disabilities this was not a task that they could take on themselves, so Mitre 10 Helping Hands came to the rescue and re-did the garden beds for them.

Finding the right day was harder than expected but on Thursday March 12th five team members headed out to the house with their gear to get the job done right!

The first task was to get all the old soil out of the garden beds. Then they had to deconstruct them by knocking off the old planks of timber (or what was left of them). After a yummy pizza lunch, the team then got the new timber and constructed the new garden beds. To finish it all off they filled the two beds with new soil and planted some Winter veggies for them to start their garden.

The outcome was amazing, out with the old and in with the new! Not only do they look so much better, more importantly Mr and Mrs Wootton will now be able to grow as many veggies as their hearts desire! The team at Mitre 10 MEGA Ferrymead were very proud of all of their hard work and the Wootton’s were very grateful for the help.
