Wood fires give you reliable, strong heat, a backup during power cuts and the atmosphere of a real flame. Choose between radiant fires (which warm nearby people and surfaces directly) and convection fires (which warm and circulate air for more even whole-home heating). Ultra Low Emission Burners (ULEB) meet the strictest urban air quality rules. Every wood fire installation requires a building consent and certified installation.
Radiant wood fires transfer heat directly to people and objects in front of the fire, making them ideal for draughty homes, high ceilings and open-plan living areas where you want to feel the heat immediately. Convection wood fires use an outer casing to warm and circulate air around the firebox, delivering more even heat throughout the room and working better in well-insulated homes.
A good quality wood fire with regular maintenance will typically last 20 to 30 years. Firebricks, baffles and door seals are wear parts that need replacing every 5 to 15 years depending on use. Annual flue sweeps, burning dry wood and replacing worn parts as needed all extend the life of the firebox significantly.
