Low compact profusely branched shrub with shining mid-green rounded leaves. The true English hedging box. Makes the perfect box hedge. Can be trimmed for topiary. Grows in a wide range of conditions. Very hardy. Best protected from very hot sun or strong winds.
'Suffruticosa' is a very slow-growing true dwarf cultivar of English boxwood. It has fine, soft, slightly glossy green leaves that keep their color throughout the year. It grows best in evenly moist, well-drained loamy soil in full sun to part shade. Though it can grow in a range of soil types and survive in close to full shade, it will be less vigorous and have decreased foliage than if grown in optimal conditions. Growing in full sun is likely to cause the foliage to scorch in winter or bring on mite attacks. Morning sun is best as well as protection from strong winds.
