This tropical indoor plant often called a “Wax plant” due to its thick waxy leaves, is a classic because it lives forever, grows to be enormous, and creates beautiful, porcelain-like fragrant flower clusters (it’s also often called “Porcelain flower”). Hoyas are quiet pickier needing very bright, but indirect light, to thrive. Also enjoys heat and high humidity.

Never cut the long tendrils! Leaves and flower clusters develop from these. Propagate Hoya plants from stem cuttings or by air layering. Hoyas don’t mind being a bit root bound. Keep in the same pot for years, but remember to fertilize throughout spring and summer. All Hoyas need to be potted in planters with drainage. These plants are very sensitive to too much water, so be sure to use a well draining soil with plenty of pumice and/or perlite. It’s hard to predict when these plants will flower, as it occurs when the plants reach maturity. Reaching maturity on the growing conditions! But rumor has it that keeping your plant tightly root-bound (in a smaller than normal pot) will accelerate blossoming. Don’t down-pot your plant, though (take it from a big pot and place in a smaller pot) as that can shock your Hoya, a no-no in Hoya plant care.
  • Dark green, large, almond-shaped leaves grow on long vines
  • Creamy pink, ball flower clusters that hang down resembling an umbrella
  • Blooms during warm months when mature
  • Flowers have a light fragrance at night, in our opinion smells like chocolate.

We are happy to exchange or refund products within 28 days provided that the product is returned with a valid invoice or delivery docket, and;

Customised products, which include products cut, made-to-measure, special order or mixed to specific requirements, cannot be refunded or exchanged.

Clearance items or products purchased during Clearance events in our stores, cannot be returned or exchanged.

It’s always easiest to return your product to the store you got it from, but you can return it to any Mitre 10 store. If you prefer to courier your product back to us, just check your invoice to see which store dispatched your order and that’s where you send it back to.

We will refund to your original payment method where possible or, if you prefer, we can issue you a Mitre 10 Gift Card for the sum equal to the cost of the product excluding handling and any delivery or returns costs.

If you return products which were purchased in full or part using Airpoints Dollars™ and choose to have your purchase refunded, we’ll refund you in the same proportion of Airpoints Dollars™ and other payment types that were used for the original payment.

Faulty Goods

If a problem occurs with a product purchased from Mitre 10, bring it back to us with your proof of purchase. We will either repair, replace or provide you with a refund, as set out in the Consumer Guarantees Act.
