Top Five Storage Tips

Get your spaces sorted before summer with some nifty storage ideas.

Whether it’s the practical stuff, fun stuff, kid’s stuff, hardly ever used stuff or stuff used every day, there are easy ways to get it all organised.

1. Hang hooks

Fixing large hanging screws, or hooks to the garage walls is an easy way to hang clunky items such as wheelbarrows, bikes, shovels, rakes and ladders. It’s a fantastic way to keep your garage floor clear and your tools well organised. Hooks can also be placed in rooms such as bathrooms and bedrooms for towels and coats, keeping them neatly out of the way.

2. Get creative with shelving

Shelving gets clutter out of the way. It’s great in kids’ bedrooms, in the laundry and in the garage. It’s also a chance to be a little creative displaying prized possessions, plants, candles or using stylish containers. You can purchase readymade shelves or construct your own shelving units, just makes sure the shelves are strong enough to take the items you intend to store on them.

Another idea is attaching screw jar lids to the underside of a shelf. It’s a clever way to keep jars of bits and pieces well organised.

3. Fill containers

This is a classic but a goody. Containers with lids are ideal for storing similar item together, making them tidy and easy to find when you need them. Tubs or baskets are great for storing kids toys or camping and fishing gear, or even keeping shoes contained at the bottom of the wardrobe. You can clearly label the front of the container to keep track of what is stored where. Many are stackable too.

4. Plan your wardrobe

You can get a lot more into your wardrobe with a little organisation. Having a place for your clothes, shoes and accessories streamlines a wardrobe and makes things easier to find – plus you’ll be able to see the things that you never wear and could really get rid of! Installing a wardrobe organiser unit is a very simple DIY job and will sort out your wardrobe in no time.

5. Install kitchen and laundry organisers

Adding a pull-out cupboard or cupboard organiser, a cutlery tray, revolving corner unit, swing out bin or pull out cleaning caddy will totally transform the way you work in your kitchen. It’ll make access easier and you’ll be able to see everything that’s there with no hassle – even the things hiding right at the back.with no hassle – even the things hiding right at the back.
