Hellebores are the unsung heroes of the winter garden. While they are commonly called the Winter Rose, Hellebores are not actually a rose and earned this nickname because of their resemblance to a flat single blossomed rose. They bring joy and delight to the garden during a time of year when there are very few other flowers to admire. Hellebores are an evergreen perennial and best planted in drifts or massed in the shade of shrubs deciduous trees.
