Mitre 10 shines at 2019 Hardware Awards
The spotlight was firmly on Mitre 10 stores and team members at last week’s 2019 Hardware Awards
as the home improvement retailer took out five hotly contested categories.
The annual Hardware Awards recognise the best people and stores in the hardware, home improvement and building supplies industry, with nominees coming from all over New Zealand.
With 11 finalists across six categories, Mitre 10 New Zealand took out Retail Store of the Year (up to 4,000m2), Retail Store of the Year (Over 4,000m2), Trade Store of the Year (Over 3,000m2), Young Retailer of the Year, as well as Young Achiever of the Year.
Chief Executive Chris Wilesmith says he’s incredibly proud of the strong performance of Mitre 10 at the awards this year, putting the awards down to passionate people.
“It’s fantastic to have this recognition from the industry and to put the spotlight on passionate teams across Mitre 10 that continue to get it done right for our customers,” says Wilesmith.
Mitre 10 stores won three of the four Store of the Year categories with Mitre 10 MEGA Pukekohe and Mitre 10 MEGA Dunedin winning Retail Store of the Year across the two size formats (up to 4,000m2 and over 4,000m2).
Mitre 10 MEGA Petone won Trade Store of the Year (over 3,000m2) against strong competition from two PlaceMakers stores. Mitre 10 MEGA Petone General Manager Jeremy Prentice was also a finalist in the Retailer of the Year category.
Mitre 10 MEGA Dunedin had further reason to celebrate with one of their two finalists in the Young Retailer of the Year award - Group Inventory Manager Hayden Autridge - taking home the win. Assistant Retail Manager Shannon Read was the store’s other finalist in the Young Retailer of the Year award.
A pleasant surprise was Mitre 10 MEGA Papanui’s Vin Coetser winning the Young Achiever Award, recognising his budding talent and bright future in retail.
“Our success relies on having amazing people at all levels of our business that are growing their careers with us. So I am particularly proud to see Mitre 10 represented strongly at both finalist and winner stages of the individual awards. Well done Hayden, Vin, Shannon and Jeremy!” says Wilesmith.
