Construction on track for Mitre 10 Gisborne store

The size and scale of the Mitre 10 Gisborne store is now evident with the steel frame and concrete tilt slab going up on the 5,500sqm store being built on the Derby Street site.

Owner operator Geoff Taylor says the construction of the store remains on track for opening before the end of the year.

“It’s exciting to have the steel work up and to be able to get a sense of the size and scale of the store. Now the steel work is up, the roof will be completed over the coming weeks and we will start pouring the floor in early October. It’s great to have everything basically running to schedule at present,” says Taylor.

Once complete, Mitre 10 Gisborne will have a team of around 60, in a mix of full and part time roles.

“From our current temporary store, that means we need to employ around another 40 locals, and we’re already well into that process. We’re really pleased with how it’s going so far, and we’ve got a few more roles to fill, so our recruitment will continue throughout October,” says Taylor.

With much to do to set up the new store, Taylor says the temporary store will close on 13 October.

“Setting up a new store will mean we need to bring all of our team across from the temporary store to get us ready for opening. It was a tough decision, but we know that our customers are really looking forward to having the full Mitre 10 range available to them so it’s important we dedicate our focus there,” says Taylor.

The new Mitre 10 store will offer an extensive range of home improvement products, a large trade offer with drive thru, an extensive garden centre, as well as amenities like a Columbus Café and playground for families. The larger footprint will also include showrooms for kitchens and bathrooms.

Mitre 10 is a New Zealand co-operative with 83 locally owned and operated stores nationwide.
