A market-first initiative to enable Kiwis to spend their Air New Zealand Airpoints Dollars™ at Mitre 10 has won the 2019 TVNZ Marketing Award in the Retail Sector category.
In October 2018, Mitre 10 became the first retail partner to offer Airpoints Dollar redemption across all products in-store and online, giving shoppers the chance to not only earn, but also spend, their Airpoints Dollars with the home and garden retailer.
“We’re blown away by the uptake and feedback from customers, with over 22,000 customers spending Airpoints Dollars with us during the first six months and customer satisfaction over 95%. The initiative has been really successful and we are seeing customers choosing to use this payment method regularly, and new customers coming to shop with us as a result,” says Mitre 10 New Zealand General Manager Marketing Jules Lloyd-Jones.
The Airpoints Redemption programme allows shoppers to pay in full, or for part of their purchases with their Airpoints Dollars, by swiping their Airpoints membership card at checkout when making purchases of $75 or more.
“It was a really ambitious and complex programme to deliver, but both the Air New Zealand and Mitre 10 teams worked incredibly hard to overcome the multiple challenges we faced to deliver this innovation to our shoppers. It’s great to have that recognised by the marketing industry,” says Lloyd-Jones.
