Mitre 10 Careers

Since 1974 Mitre 10 has helped Kiwis improve their homes. We’re trusted to do this, and that’s a real privilege. That’s why we have locally owned and operated stores in all corners of the country and a team of over 5000 who are dedicated to helping Kiwis turn their home improvement dreams into reality.

As the biggest home improvement retailer, and a trade partner of choice, life at Mitre 10 is fast paced and offers huge scope.

A career with us could see you working at one of the Mitre 10 or Mitre 10 MEGA stores or within our Auckland based Support Centre. There are opportunities in many areas and at many levels so whatever your interests and abilities, check out what we have to offer.

Whether you are a school leaver, graduate or experienced professional - if you are enthusiastic, down to earth and eager to be part of a true Kiwi success story then we want to hear from you.

We are always on the lookout for great people. And once you’re here, we can help you to be even greater. We offer a range of training and development programmes, as well as on-the-job training. We recognise our people are at the core of our success and that’s why we are committed to supporting individual needs.

We're an ambitious lot, like all Kiwis are. If you are too, visit our Careers centre to see what is currently available, and register for our email alerts to be first to know about new opportunities.

Our culture & values

Being part of the Mitre 10 family means being part of an enduring success story, making home-improvement possible plus celebrating and sharing in our customers' success stories.

We reckon we’ve got a pretty great culture. We have six core values, which underpin everything we do. They are Customer Driven, Strive for Excellence, Honest & Fair, Keep our People & Customers Safe, Down to Earth, One Team.

We’re also a diverse bunch. And not the same as most of New Zealand’s other big retailers. That’s because we’re a co-operative not a corporate. We enjoy the strength of one group, but we’re made up of lots of entrepreneurial individuals and Kiwi families whose iconic values and humble roots underpin all that we do. Collaboration is key and our people have a voice, and that is what makes us highly innovative and keeps us ahead of the game.

Customers are at the heart of our business, that’s the Mitre 10 way, and so we have a diverse and open-minded team who are focused on making home improvement easier for DIYers and helping tradies to do business better.

Building a career with us

A career in retail provides huge opportunity. It’s one industry where you can start off at the bottom and one day be running a store. Or you could start within our Support Centre straight from university and one day be responsible for a multi-million dollar product portfolio – the opportunities are huge! As the country’s biggest home improvement retailer, a career with us offers many diverse directions.

You can work in many different areas: customer service, garden, merchandise, inwards goods, purchasing, global sourcing, marketing, retail operations, trade, finance, legal, store development, property, IT and human resources.

We are committed to your development and enhancing your career opportunities within Mitre 10. We value our people and have structured performance management and training programmes in place to help our team members realise their potential.

Through our own in-house, professionally developed Learning Centre we offer courses on product knowledge, customer service and personal development. We also provide access to nationally recognised supervisory, management and retail certifications and Building and Construction Industry Training Organisation (BCITO) qualifications.

Career progression is encouraged at Mitre 10. We understand the value of investing in our people and have seen many team members progress to management positions and even store ownership, as well as helping team members to pursue new career paths.
