MEGAWALK SUNDAY 9TH NOVEMBER 2014
This is a social event designed to get people out for a walk along the Rotary Pathway, there will be prizes for each man and woman who comes first and second in The MEGA and HB Today HALF MEGA who enter The Hogs Breath Cafe Challenge. Only participants who enter The Challenge will be timed.
All proceeds raised will again go to CanTeen and be put towards the wonderful activities and camps they provide for their members. In the last 3 years we have been supporting CanTeen with this event we have raised over $50,000! These funds have gone into the vital services that CanTeen offers young people living with cancer and their families. Learn more about CanTeen here.
We have designed 4 events to cater to all fitness levels and physical abilties. We have a varied array of participants from the very young to the young at heart and the finely tuned athletes to those with physical challenges who have inspired us and shown great determination in completing the event.
The MEGA is a 28km run or walk. The event starts at Mitre 10 MEGA, Hastings at 7.30am. Participants will follow a clearly defined route through Hastings to the Showgrounds. The course then heads towards Whakatu before joining the Rotary Pathway at Pakowhai Park, adjacent to the Chesterhope Bridge. It then follows the Pathway to Ahuriri. The finishline is at Mitre 10 MEGA Napier. To be professionally timed you must register in the Hogs Breath Cafe Challenge.
The HB Today Half MEGA is a 15km run or walk that starts at Awatoto- opposite the southern end of the Fertiliser Works- at 9.00am. This event also follows the Rotary Pathway and finishes at Mitre 10 MEGA Napier. To be professionally timed you must register in the Hogs Breath Challenge
The Shoe Clinic Short MEGA is a 6.5km version which starts behind Ocean Spa on the Marine Parade at 10.00am.
The MoreFM MEGA Meander is a 3.5km walk or meander starting at 10.00am at Perfume Point,Ahuriri.
The Hogs Breath Cafe Challenge. All entrants in The Challenge will be professionally timed and eligible for fantastic prizes for 1st and 2nd Man and Woman in The MEGA and HB Today HALF MEGA. You will also recieve the standard event pack.

A $2 coin charge is payable when registering. Available on the day but first priority is given to pre-paid passengers. If you think you won't finish before 1.30 please make sure to get the bus to the start point and leave your car at MEGA. Please park in the designated areas next to Napier MEGA so the carpark is free for customers to shop at MEGA & Hunting and Fishing (Marshalls will be onsite directing traffic).Entry also available from Ford Road.
Event Pack. All entrants will receive a Hi-Vis vest and a CanTeen bandanna as part of the entry fee. If you already have a vest from previous years please reuse, this helps keep costs down and more funds go to CanTeen. These will be available to pick up when you register instore from 1st October or for online entrants from your nomiated store from Friday 1st November.
This year we are adding a fundraising element to the event based on feedback we recieved last year. You can get your family and friends to sponsor you in your chosen event. The person who raises the most money will recieve a 18volt Black and Decker Cordless Drill. Winner will be presented at the Prize Giving.
There are two options available.
Register on our Givealittle fundraising page. Click here. Just click on the fundraising tab, enter your details and start getting people to support you. 100% of the funds you raise will be automatically deposited to CanTeen Hawkes Bay after the event. Even if you can't paricipate in the event your donation is much appreciated.
Or there is a paper form available.
All you have to do is tick the box on the registration form. We will email you an official fundraising form and then you can start signing up supporters. 100% of the funds you raise will go to CanTeen Hawkes Bay. To be eligible for the prize you must drop off your form and money to either Service desk on or before Sunday 9th November.
We will follow up with fundraisers following the event or you can drop your collection into the service desk of either MEGA.
We also have an option for schools to raise valuable funds. If your school enters a team in the Megawalk and also chooses the fundraising option CanTeen will split the funds with you. 60% will go to CanTeen and 40% will go back to your school. This option is only available to school teams with 10+ members who register together as one team. We are now a Maraefit sanctioned event. MaraeFit Series is a new initiative created by Sport Hawke’s Bay. It is about increasing Maori participation in events and workshops, encouranging whanau to re-connect to their marae. Points will be accumulated; marae with most points will be announced at the Ngati Kahungunu Sports Awards as ‘The most active marae in Ngati Kahungunu'.
- Tamariki 5-12 years = 15 points
- Rangatahi 13-20 years = 20 points
- Matua 21-49 years = 30 points
- Pakeke/Kaumatua 50+ years = 50 points
To have your participation in our event recorded you must use the Maraefit registration form and register instore. (sorry not available online this year)
