Surface Preparation

Wooden Floors, Plywood and High Density Particle Board

Best method:

Hardies tile slate underlay fixed according to manufacturers instructions (use FlexitileTM or FulaflexTM for tile adhesive).

OR…

If the particle board floor is sound with floor joists at 400 centres and no deflection (bounce) when walked over, sand and seal with one coat of oil based sealer, (must use FlexitileTM as the tile adhesive).

Old Vinyl

(Floor must be sound as above) can be tiled over if it is fully bonded and heavily sanded back to remove any polish residue on the surface. Use FlexitileTM.

Concrete Floors

If not level you need a leveling coumpound. Don’t use tile adhesives for leveling. For small holes use cement plaster with bonding agent. (Tuffbond 4 in 1TM ). Make sure floor is very clean with no dirt, grime, grease, paint of other loosely adhering materials.

Walls

Must be firm, clean and sound. Wet areas must use Villaboard or Gib® Aqualine® and waterproof membrane to height of shower rose.

Benchtops

Ok to use MDF sealed.

Note: If tiling walls and floors, tile the floor first.
