Preparation

In general, surfaces must be flat and firmly fixed. Clean off dust, oil, grease and all loose contaminating materials. Ensure surfaces are dry before tiling with no residue or permanent damp. Prime porous surfaces with a Primer and Additive.

Prior to commencing any tiling project, ensure you read packaging and data sheets carefully to ensure the surface has been prepared satisfactorily and the correct application procedure has been followed.

Choose the Right Adhesive

Use an adhesive that is suitable for the substrate and situation of your project. The table below refers to the DUNLOP range of tile adhesives available from your local Mitre 10 store. Please also see the notes below for further information.

Please note:

1. When not tiling over DUNLOP Undertile Waterproofing

2. Over DUNLOP Undertile Waterproofing Membrane

3. Premixed Resalfex can only be used on floors when tiling over fibre-cement sheet

4. Covered outdoor only (where movement is anticipated use with DUNLOP Primer & Additive)

5. Grinding glaze required in outdoor situations

6. Exclude use in immersed conditions over existing tiles

Wall Tiling

STEP 1

Spread adhesive with notches running horizontally across the wall with a 6mm notch trowel.

STEP 2

Press and slide the tile into the adhesive at right angles to the notch pattern and position the tile.

STEP 3

Use tile spaces if desired, to ensure even spacing.

STEP 4

Remove any surplus adhesive from face of tile before it sets.

Floor Tiling

STEP 1

Mix adhesive according to instructions on packaging by adding powder to water.

STEP 2

Apply adhesive to the floor substrate with a minimum 10mm notch trowel.

STEP 3

Press and slide the tile into position ensuring the back of the tile is in good contact with the adhesive.

STEP 4

Remove any surplus adhesive from face of tile before it sets.

Cutting Tiles

• Measure the tiles to be cut.
• Use a combination tile cutter or platform tile cutter to cut the tiles.
• To cut a half circle, use tile nippers to break off small pieces at a time.

Mitre 10 Handy Hints

• Dust can be a problem if cutting with power tools.
• Always wear gloves, goggles and a face mask.
• Tile chips can get into eyes and cut edges can be sharp.
• Tile adhesives contain chemicals which can produce skin reactions.
