Make a Low Slat Bed - Do It Yourself - Interior - how to guide from Mitre 10 New Zealand.

Step 1

Cut four lengths of wood (150 x 50mm pine) to make the futon slat-bed frame. Pre-drill the ends of the longer, side pieces. Screw on the two bed ends to make basic frame. Use sandpaper to smoothe off edges. Make a Low Slat Bed - Do It Yourself - Interior - how to guide from Mitre 10 New Zealand.

Step 2

Measure the centre points of the head and foot of the bed and mark with a pencil. Screw in the pre-cut length of pine (100 x 50mm) so it`s flush with the top of the frame. This provides additional support for the slats. Make a Low Slat Bed - Do It Yourself - Interior - how to guide from Mitre 10 New Zealand.

Step 3

Mark 20 equal spaces along the lengths of the frame and attach slats, at these points, with screws. Again, use sandpaper to smooth any raw edges on the slats. Make a Low Slat Bed - Do It Yourself - Interior - how to guide from Mitre 10 New Zealand.

Step 4

Turn the bed upside down and cut four triangular wooden blocks to fit snugly into the corners. Glue and screw a block into each corner of the frame, making sure they are straight and sitting flush with the bottom.
