Installation Instuctions

Installation of the First Row:

Step 1

Starting in the left hand corner of the room, place the first panel with the groove to the wall.

Step 2

Make sure an expansion gap of at least
10mm – 15mm is maintained between the wall and the panels. Use installation wedge spacers.

NOTE: If the wall is uneven you
will have to scribe the first row to suit. A constant expansion gap must be maintained. For rooms with length greater than 7m allow 1.4mm per l/m at both sides of the room.

Step 3
Connect the next plank in the row by placing the end groove into the corresponding tongue of the laid plank.

Repeat until you reach the end of the row.

Continue to place installation spacers every 400mm and at every panel join.

Step 3A

End panel locking detail.

Step 4

At the end of the first row cut the plank as necessary to fit. Be sure to allow for the expansion gap at the end.

Installation of the Sequential Rows:

Step 5

Start the next row with the offcut from the
previous row, if the offcut is less than 400mm long use a new panel and cut to suit.

NOTE: The panel ends of each row
must be staggered by at least 400mm to
ensure optimize locking strength.

Step 6

Connect the planks of the next row as per step 4 and place them on the top of the bottom lip of the previous rows tongue.

Step 6A

Row positioning

Step 7

When the row is complete lift the planks gently and slot / scissor into the protruding tongue of the adjoining plank, working left to right.(see photos 7a – 7c)

NOTE: a helpful hint is to hold the left hand beginning planks in place with tape or a pack so it does not separate.

Step 7A
Step 7B
Step 7C

Step 8

Continue step 5 to 7 until you have reached the end of the room.

Step 9

Before laying the last row, measure the distance between the row and the wall, by laying a panel exactly on the last row with the tongue towards the wall. Then place a second panel on top of it and use it to draw an exact line for the required panel width. Cut and fit as per steps 4 - 7

Step 10

For cases where you are unable to install the panel because of obstructions as per above, remove the lip edge with a chisel and fit the panel flat.

Glue the join and hold in place with tape. (refer to photos 10a – 10d)

Step 11

Fitting around door frames and end panels, the door frame should be shortened to allow the panels to fit under. Place a panel (with the face down) against the door frame.

Cut with a pad saw along the door frame, remove the off cuts.

Steps 11A-D

To fit panels, remove the lip edge from the last row panels with a chisel, slide the panel under the door jamb.

Step 12

To fit the panels apply glue / lock seal to
the tongue of the last row

Step 12A

Pull the panels back into place and secure with tape until dry

Finishing Off the Floor Installation

Step 13

Remove all the expansion gap spacers and refix skirting or beading over the expansion gaps. Affix to the wall only do not fix to the floor.

Cleaning and Maintenance

We recommend and endorse the Unika specialty range of flooring maintenance and cleaning products available from your local Mitre 10 retailer.

Under no circumstances wet mop your laminate flooring. This just smears a layer of grime and can cause joint swelling.

Sweep and vacuum your floor on a regular basis, use an antistatic microfibre mop with
the unika zip cleaner.

Place good floor mats at entrance and door ways.

Fit felt pads to the bases of all furniture.

Never wax or floor polishes on your laminate floor.

Always read the instructions contained in the individual packs.

Happy laying !!!
