Mitre 10 is a Kiwi business, with locally owned and operated stores and a values-driven organisation.
Our customers concerns are also our concerns. This is why we take sustainability seriously.
Environmental Council
Mitre 10 has established an Environmental Council, a group of senior leaders from across the company who are responsible for developing policy and goals on environmental issues and overseeing the programmes that will deliver them. Current programmes cover everything from energy efficiency improvements and new supply chain requirements to trialling grey water recycling for stores.
Sustainable Tropical Timber
Mitre 10 is a member of the registered UK charity TFT (Tropical Forest Trust) and as a member supports the Trust’s mission “to help ensure that tropical forests are managed for their long-term future and to maximise their value to people, wildlife and the environment.”
As part of Mitre 10's commitment we are working with TFT and FSC (Forest Stewardship Council) to ensure our outdoor furniture forest sources are either FSC certified, or are working with the TFT towards independent certification through a strictly controlled and regulated management program.

Sustainable Products
As a major retailer in the New Zealand home improvement market, Mitre 10 is committed to bring home owners the best range of products to help them move towards more sustainable and healthier homes.
We have products that improve energy efficiency, air and water quality, water conservation and create a warmer, drier healthier home. We also have products that help you to recycle and compost and of course grow your own fruit and vegetables! In addition we continue to research product life-cycle initiatives that will reduce any environmental impacts of key home improvement products.
Plastic Bags

Mitre 10 has re-useable bags available for customer purchase and use.

The plastic bags used in Mitre 10 Stores are manufactured from HDPE plastic. Should they inadvertently find their way into the environment, they are fully degradable.

We trust our customers to use plastic bags responsibly. They are intelligent New Zealanders capable of making their own choices.

We have no intention of charging for plastic bags at this time but will be led by our customers over any future decision to do so.
