ACC Home Safety
Action Week
On average, 25,000 people a year require hospitalisation from an injury that happened in their own home. To increase awareness of hazards around the home and to reduce the high home accident rates ACC run an annual Home Safety campaign.
As the country’s leading home improvement and garden retailer, Mitre 10, supports this campaign to help people make their homes safer. Every day we help people to improve their homes and believe that it in doing so we should ensure our customers improve their homes safely and protect themselves from unnecessary harm. |

Mitre 10 Community
of the Year Award
Mitre 10 is a category sponsor of the Community of the Year Award, as part of the New Zealander of the Year Awards.
The Mitre 10 Community of the Year Award acknowledges groups or organisations working together to build better communities. A community is only a community when people work together. This award serves as recognition and a thank you for the dedication, fellowship and partnership that a locally implemented activity has created leading to a positive, sustainable, environmental or social benefit to the community.
As a locally owned and operated business, Mitre 10 has strong roots in communities nationwide and believes it is important to give back to the communities that have supported us through the years.

Mitre 10
Takahe Rescue
Since 2005, Mitre 10 has partnered with DOC, via Mitre 10 Takahe Rescue, contributing more than half a million dollars. In 2012, a new partnership agreement was signed that will see Mitre 10 Takahe Rescue increasing its commitment and financial contribution to the Takahe Recovery Programme for a further three year term.
Saving the takahe is a big job and by working together more can be achieved than could be achieved alone. With only 260 birds left, they’re critically endangered; that means the next step could be extinction. This partnership is about ensuring that doesn’t happen.
Over the years this support has allowed the Takah? Recovery Programme to upgrade and build new breeding units and safe homes; better monitor and control takah? predators; translocate birds to offshore island and predator free sites and purchase much needed health and maintenance materials.
Re-discovered in 1948 after presumed extinct for nearly 100 years the recovery efforts are vital in ensuring the takah? population is built and a self-sustaining breeding programme established. |
